Launch Party Saturday, May 26th 11am ~ 1pm
This summer Children of all ages can "Sail Away With Books" at the University Park Public Library. The Summer Reading Club begins on Saturday, May 26, with a Kick-Off Party from 11:00am to 1:00 pm under the Chase Bank Tent in the parking lot adjacent to the Library. Acclaimed puppeteer Brett Roberts and Pete the Pirate will provide entertainment and Ringling Brothers circus clowns will be on hand for the festivities. Every child who enrolls in the program will receive a Summer Reading Club T-shirt underwritten by Virginia Cook Realtors.
"More than 650 youth enrolled in our Summer Reading Club last year and we anticipate that this year the figure will be even higher," said Library Director Lee Shuey. Co-sponsored by the Texas State Library, the program is designed to help children maintain and improve their reading skills. Members keep a record of the hours they read and earn prizes donated by local merchants.
Besides earning prizes donated by local merchants for recorded hours spent reading, the children are invited to attend several "special" activities planned just for them!
