What is HeritageQuest?
Since 1983, HeritageQuest has been providing genealogical searchers with information.
“HeritageQuest is the largest genealogical data, products, supplies and equipment provider to consumers and institutions in the United States.” (Quoted from the website.) HeritageQuest Online combines the content from HeritageQuest with ProQuest’s Genealogy & Local History Online, a collection of over 25,000 family and local histories.
What is included in HeritageQuest?
- You have access to over 25,000 family and local history books from all 50 states and Canada, which you can search by word and copy pages, as needed. There are 7,922 family histories, 12,035 local histories, and 258 primary sources.
- You can search the U.S. Federal Census from 1790 to 1930. Most of these years, although not all, are indexed.
- PERSI – The PERiodical Source Index is a subject index of over 6,500 journals with 1.6 million citations. It may be searched by surname, location, and methodology, and may be browsed by title and keyword.
- Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files includes records of more than 80,000 people who served in the Revolutionary War. Each file contains about six pages, often more, of information about their service, rank, unit, period of service, age or date of birth, residence, and sometimes information about other family members.
- Freedman’s Bank Records, when made available, will include information about more than 70,000 bank depositors and nearly 480,000 of their dependants and heirs. This is one of the most important resources for African-American genealogical research.
- Additional material is considered and uploaded continuously. The advisory board is considering such possibilities as ships’ passenger lists, military history, city directories, vital records, and international content.
