Friends of the University Park Public Library
History
In 1989, the FRIENDS of the LIBRARY for the Park Cities was incorporated as a 501(c)3 organization. The FRIENDS had a Board, Officers, an Advisory Board, and collected dues to enable their effort to establish a library in University Park.
Twelve years later, on June 7, 2001, the University Park Book Bank opened at the current location in the Chase Bank building in Snider Plaza.
The library space in the Chase Bank building, at Hillcrest and Daniel in Snider Plaza, was, and is, provided for $1.00 per year, by property owner, Albert Huddleston. When it opened, it was called the UNIVERSITY PARK BOOK BANK.
At the time the Book Bank opened, it operated only 4 hours a week, and was organized and run only by volunteers.
The Book Bank became the University Park Public Library when Lee Shuey was hired as Library Director, April 1, 2002.
By January, 2005, the UPPL was open 38 hours per week, with a Library Director, a Children’s Librarian, and five Library Associates.
FRIENDS and others continue to volunteer, and the FRIENDS Board and Officers conduct the business of the library.

HOW else can I help?
Goodsearch on the Internet. The Library receives some money each time you do a search using Goodsearch. The first time you go to Goodsearch, you will need to type in: Friends of the University Park Public Library as your charity choice. There is a button there to verify your choice which takes just one second. After that, every time you go to GoodSearch, the default charity is the Friends of the University Park Public Library. The neatest thing of all is that there is a button which keeps a total of your searches and therefore, the amount to be donated.
We are grateful to our Friends and supporters!
