TEEN COURT REFERRAL POLICY

The library will accept teen court referrals ages 14 and over. The following policies will be enforced.

Teen court referrals must schedule their volunteer time in advance. Teens should speak with an Associate at our check-out desk or call the Library, 214-363-9095, during service hors. Teen court referrals must attend a REQUIRED training session. Training sessions earn service hour credit and are held each month on the third Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Teens must appear in appropriate dress for business purposes. Cut-offs, sandals, halter-tops, short shorts or skirts, and the like will not be approved. Teens may be sent home to change if they appear inappropriately dressed.

Teens are expected to comport themselves in a business-like manner while working at the library. It is not the responsibility of library employees to continually correct teen behavior. More than one correction may result in the teen being dismissed. Behavior of court referrals will be reported to the court. No community service hours will be granted to teens who are dismissed.

a.

Multiple telephone calls are unnecessary while teens are working. Please
inform your correspondents of this rule.

b.

Court referrals are here to work, not to read, chat, play on the computers, take
multiple breaks, or other non-work-related behavior. Teens who do not do the
work will be asked to leave.

c.

When a teen completes an assigned job, he/she is expected to report to the
supervising staff member. Another job may be assigned.

d.

Teens may take a maximum of one 5-minute break per hour. This time may be
combined with that of the next hour. Teens who do not wish to take breaks will
not be forced to, unless the work longer than 6 hours at a stretch.

Court referrals will be asked to sign a contract indicating they have read and understand this policy. They will not be allowed to work until they have signed the contract. A copy of this contract will be filed with the court for the informational needs of that entity.
