We invite you to come discover our large and varied collection of Art books. We have over six hundred volumes in our Art section! You will find books on art history, volumes on individual artists, and numerous museum guides and catalogs. The Dewey Classification number is listed next to each title below so that you can easily locate it when you are in the library.
Our Art section has information available on every age and style of art from the Bronze Age through the 20th century. We have a large number of lavishly illustrated coffee table books like The Golden Age: Dutch Paintings of the 17 Century by Bob Haak (759.949), Art of the Old South 1560-1860 by Jessie Poesch (709), and a volume on Hindu art, Kangra Painting of the Gita Govinda by Mohindar Singh Randhawa (759.954). But even slender volumes like Milagros, Votive Offerings from the Americas by Martha Egan (704.948), and African Art by Frank Willett (709.01) provide satisfying introductions to regional art.
Whether you are a planning a trip or traveling afar from your easy chair we have catalogs from museums all over the world. Stroll the galleries of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Prado in Madrid, the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, or discover works from our hometown Dallas Museum of Art. Over one hundred museums are represented in our collection.
On our shelves are many books covering the careers of individual artists. Three beautiful examples are Rembrandt Paintings by Horst Gerson (759.949), Paul Klee by Will Grohman (759.9), and The Flag Paintings of Childe Hassam by Ilene Susan Fort (759.13). This last volume offers a comprehensive overview of the American Impressionist’s patriotic late works.
We hope you will come browse our Art section and find a volume or two to check out and enjoy.
